Famous
as one of the women who refused to give up their seats before Rosa
Parks. Smith was 18 years old when she was arrested. It has
been reported that he NAACP rejected her as a defendant in their
test case because her father was rumored to be an alcoholic. Smith,
along with Claudette Colvin, also testified
in the famous Browder v. Gayle
case to desegregate city buses
